Hypnotherapy help for rheumatoid arthritis

What is rheumatoid arthritis?

Rheumatoid arthritis is classed as an autoimmune disease that effects the joints in the body. Inflammation causes swelling, pain, stiffness and reduced movement in these areas. Other symptoms of the disease include headaches, fevers, lethargy and weight loss. Rheumatoid arthritis usually begins in the hands and the feet but spreads over time. If it is not treated early or controlled it can effect surrounding bone, tissue and cartilage. The disease effects mainly women though it is not known why.

What are the treatments for rheumatoid arthritis?

There is currently no known cure for rheumatoid arthritis but there are medications that control the disease and reduce the risk of developing further symptoms. These treatments suppress or modify the effects of the immune system. In addition physiotherapy can be used to increase flexibility and  muscle strength. Taking medication for pain relief is common practice and a healthy diet that avoids processed food, gluten, sugar and lactose is preferable.
